Hello
I am new here and my husband and myself are caring for my sons Nan, I just want to ask a question, if as a family you are happy to care for your loved one and they are happy with the arrangement do you have to have social services involved or can you all carry on looking after the person concerned ?

No, you don't have to.
And I don't think it's necessarily helpful to involve them now in anticipation of future needs. My mother had a social services needs assessment fairly early in her dementia journey and at that point SS assessed her as having no current needs. The following year, when she had deteriorated and did need help, I rang them again and told them she was already 'on their books'. But they said - no she isn't, as she had no care needs we closed her case, so you will have to start from scratch. So I'd say wait until there is something you need from them. They are really overwhelmed with cases which need their attention so there is no point in contacting them if you don't really need them.
