I have a couple of questions for people who have someone/parent living with them.
I'm really unsure if to have mum live with us, not diagnosed yet but struggling with her memory and also her mood and is constantly lonely and bored and says she doesn't want to live alone or go in a home.
I'm quite worried about her on our stairs as she has lost lots of weight in last couple of months, gets tired quickly and is wobbly on the stairs. When she visits I follow her up and walk in front of her on way down so I wouldn't like to leave her in house alone.
Also when she stayed over with us recently when she was upset and confused and didnt want to be alone she got up a few times in the night and came looking for us. She had to pass the top of the stairs to get to our room so I spent the night listening out for her just in case fell onto the stairs or was upset. I usually wear earplugs as have a very noisy hubby and I've a bit of a thing about breathing noises and I'm a light sleeper but when mum was with us I couldn't wear them and listen out for her so didnt sleep.
My sister suggested a pressure matt that set of an alarm when mum left bedroom so I could maybe sleep with ear plugs in but be woken up when mum got up but I don't really know how they work?
It was suggested I could try a stairgate at top of stairs at bedtime so there was a barrier to stop mum if she wobbled on way to find us in night.
So thats one question, has anyone any experience of either of those things?
The other thing I was wondering about is does anyone have carers come into their home to look after parent when they go out?
It seems odd to have a stranger come in to look after mum when we not there but otherwise we'd never get out to visit hubbys parents, hairdresser, shopping etc. Do they even work evenings?
I've seen an advert for a care firm (not sure if allowed to mention who) and seen they have an office in our town but don't know what it's like to have someone coming in our home and if the company is any good?
Has anyone experience/advice please?
