Finding a suitable nursing home for a younger person with severe challenging behaviour

Hi,

I'm new to this but I've been dealing with my 61 year old Dad's diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer's for well over 6 yrs. He was living in a great residential home for 5yrs until he deteriorated beyond what they could care for. He then spent 9 months in mental health units because as he's deteriorating his behavior is becoming more challenging (punching patients and staff). I'm currently stuck because I'm told he should now be in a nursing home but no nursing homes will take him because of this behavior and his age. Does anyone have any experience of this and have any recommendations, particularly in the south, of places that would take him?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thank you. I've used it, and whilst on the surface they tick the box once I speak to them it seems they can't - I found one but they only took him for 2.5weeks before putting him back into an nhs facility because they couldn't look after him. I know there are plenty of EMI homes but his and and physical health are going against us. Thank you anyway.

I am sorry you are stuck, it may be that you have to revisit state care, specialist units used to be in abundance, but these days I am afraid not. You haven't said much about who you have contacted about this and I know it seems dim of me, but with this problem you may have to go back to basics and kick start the state finding your dad a placement or unit that will take him.
