Care home meds

The care home my husband is in have asked permission to assess him for possible medication to calm him down in the evenings. I know he is restless in the evenings as this was one of the things I also had difficulty with. They said a behaviour specialist is coming in to assess him and then they will speak with me about possible meds. He is on antidepressant and Donepezil at present. Has anyone else asked for medication or been asked this by the care home of their loved one?

I was worried that my husband may be medicated because of his restlessness. I mentioned this to the lead of the Chess team who had been called in by the home, her reply was we do not recommend medication nowadays expect in extreme cases. I would ask the home if they have contacted the chess team as this is what happens in my local area if the home is having difficulty coping with residents.

A Baker says they don't like prescribing a "chemical cosh" just to make life easier for the care home, as they've called in a specialist I'd wait and see what they say first.
People who are restless can sometimes move on to get aggressive out of frustration and then it becomes an issue of what the home can cope with and will tolerate behaviourally.
They're obviously being proactive getting someone in to assess the behaviour and seeing what, if anything can be done.
