my Nan has dementia she knows who we all are, she basically mainly talks about the old days, mood swings but can hold a convo and have a laugh too. She’s been in and out of hospital the past 2 years with infections etc. She’s been in for 3 weeks now she’s medically fit now infection markers came down she’s just still in as we ate waiting for her new bed to be delivered at home. The past 6 days in hospital she’s like a complete dif person, she hardly talks, she doesn’t wanna eat or drink, she’s so confused and is constant crying for help. This isn’t like her at l Shen lives at home and is really good but tuis last 6 days this is how she’s be been. Nobdy has concerns docs etc but she is behaving very strange

Hospitals can be very confusing places for elderly people, add dementia to that and it makes everything even more confusing and can magnify the dementia symptoms. If the medical staff aren't concerned after you raising the issue with them, and there's no sign of infection etc then just hang on in there, try not to show the worry to your nan (as that can make her feel worried and she might not understand why she feels worried), and then just monitor her progress once she's home. It could take a few weeks from discharge before she's back to her old self.

It may just the hospital environment which is making her additionally confused, hospital is not a good place for people with dementia. When she gets home she may well improve. My mother was in hospital for about 12 days and seemed to mentally deteriorate, but within 3 or 4 weeks of being back at her care home she was back to 'normal'.
