Hi all
My wife had to give up her driving licence 4 years ago and has slowly declined in other abilities as the months/years have past. We have had angry and delusional periods - waking up in the night and wandering around and all sorts of other disturbing behaviour. I have managed to get medication sorted for her that allows her now to be happy, relaxed and pretty well sleeping through the night undisturbed.....most of the time.
Like most others in a similar situation to myself, I am calm and rational but occasionally raise my voice when things get on top of me.

Twice a week for about a year, my wife went in a minibus to a day-care centre about 10 miles from our home but when the bus stopped to let people on or off she would sometimes think she had to get off and would undo her seat-belt. I was told this contravened Health and Safety rules so they could not take her any more. I contacted several other day centres and was told that unless I could deliver and collect her they could not take her! Health and Safety say seat belts have to conform to BS..#*!!.............. or they are illegal.

That’s ridiculous. Can’t they fasten it again. My husband does that! He sometimes opens the door on the car! The. Says he hasn’t done it! They must be used to this behaviour!

Ask if there are escorted minibuses so the escort can keep an eye on things like this which must be a regular occurrence amongst elderly confused passengers.

The minibus my OH used was escorted by a member of the day care staff. Why isn’t you husbands the same? What happens if someone is taken ill? It’s not the drivers job to clear up any messes!

After a struggle I managed to get a car to collect but one mini bus expected the person fit enough to climb up the steps into the 8/10 seater.
I have been on coaches where the rules stated that drivers were not allowed to give a hand to steady someone in case they became liable!
Having struggled to get transport I think we are getting to a stage where day centre may be too much when he is home from hospital.

Sadly we have developed into a litigation society where everyone has to watch their backs in case they are sued.
