My OH is now in a care home permanently and is physically fit but living with Alzheimer’s. When I visit he knows who I am and responds well to me although he is not particularly articulate but I can often work out what he means. The problem is when I hold his hand and he is happy he gets an erection and I am not sure this is good for him. We are usually alone walking in the gardens so I can give him a kiss and ignore what he is mentioning. However I am worried and I hope someone else has experienced something like this and can advise me.

I haven't had this experience but this must have occurred with other people. If you can ignore him and he doesn't get upset, that's about the best that you can do, I think.
