Hospitalised mum with Alzheimer’s and possible infection

My mum is currently in hospital she has Alzheimer’s which has been getting worse and worse and now has a possible urine infection. She is completely spaced out of it, talking continually and her arms and legs are rigid and her neck contorted in a very odd manner......does anyone know if this is normal for a urine infection or is it just her Alzheimer’s getting progressively worse.

Sorry to hear your mum is so I'll, @BlueyM . Urine infection - or any other kind of infection - can have a devastating effect on someone with dementia. Sometimes the deterioration is temporary, and sometimes, although there will be a vast improvement, the person doesn't get back, quite, to where they were. Let's hope your mum recovers well.

you must be so worried about your mum
certainly a UTI can have a massive effect on a person with dementia as their body tries to fight the infection, so they can be much more confused and be affected physically
do chat with the doctors and make sure they know that this is not how your mum was before she was admitted so they are aware of just how different things are with her, in case there is something else going on
