Beautiful insight into dementia

It is a beautifully written article and to me it shows perfectly how it is the surrounding family and friends who suffer the knowledge of the dismantling of personality and grieve for a long time before the actual death. I am the one suffering from his illness because he doesn’t understand or even believe there is anything wrong nor remembers anything in the present. If anything that protects him from the painful knowledge. Everybody is different and I know some with the illness suffer greatly but this article shows the pain of those around her father, which I think my daughter feels.

I read that and remember her distress when her Dad was alive and she was struggling with the situation. Like broadcaster Sally Magnusson she is able to put in words what many of us live with and let’s be honest struggle with.

Yes @Grannie G that describes my dad perfectly. I struck lucky with him, he is the same as he always was just less capable and a bit lost.

He used to guide me, now I guide him. Still hard though.
