It`s taken very seriously @Cat27.

When I worked in a nursery school we had an annual Rose Queen. The competition among the mothers for their child to be Rose Queen had to be seen to be believed.

Broadstairs has a Queen Victoria for the Dickens Festival and she will be a lady of some standing in order to be selected.

It`s strange going down the High Street seeing people in Victorian Dress. Mos of them are custom made.

The close up of the lady with the hat shows her wearing her great grandmother`s Salvation Army hat which had been re modelled for her by her daughter.

I would have loved that! What a great tradition. Hope you had a good day there Sylvia, and not too chilly. Similar sky to here and it is chilly!

Thanks for sharing the photos.

I wore a light jacket @Loopiloo because it threatened rain and had to take it off because it was so warm inspite of the clouds.

Sometimes those taking part in the Dickens Festival suffer when it`s really hot, just like the Guards at Trooping the Colour. I think they were all relieved today because the rain held off and it was relatively warm.

Tomorrow they will be sea bathing in Victorian swimwear. I`ll have to miss it because I have Qigong which is a pity.

I love the idea of the Rose Queen. We don’t have anything like that round here.

When I was last in the more remote parts of Ireland there was always a bike with a saddlebag outside the pub.
If you left 5 punts in the bag and went into the pub when you came out the money had gone and a leprechaun had replaced it with a bottle of poitín.
Well of course, and then there is the highest mountain in the world to climb - and anyone can do it, as most of it is underground......

A lovely photo to celebrate his special day. I also like to look further back on these Birthdays and think about how the parents of the new baby felt, and what the world was like then. Norman was born just before WW2 was starting (March 1939) and his mum must have been excited, but scared too. What year was Dhiren born?

Dhiren was born in 1932 Amethyst .

There was nothing significant then as far as I know, but when he was nearly 16 in 1948, he was attending the prayer meeting conducted by Gandhi ,when Gandhi was assassinated.

His mother wouldn`t give permission for him to go so he stole the money for his train fare from her purse.
