@L3NWB welcome to TP
We’re here to listen so talk away.
Thank you for replying its kind of you to want to listen to me.
I've been diagnosed a few years with vascular dementia and have problems with short term memory loss.
I'm finding it hard living with it..

hello @L3NWB
a warm welcome from me too
there are members here who also have a diagnosis, so there are others on TP in a similar situation to you
do write here with whatever is on your mind - feel free to chat about anything - members are generous in sharing their experiences and knowledge to help each other
and for a proper talk to a person, Izzy's suggestion of the Helpline is a good one

Have you found any memory cafes or support groups yet. Welcome to TP by the way @L3NWB. Alzheimers Society should have a list of local groups.

I don't think I've support off my own family, we'll it feels like that too me ☹️
Hi there. My wife has vascular dementia and I am her only support. The family are too busy! I am lucky in that my wife is not violent/aggressive and she sleeps an awful lot of the time. Her only joy is watching old programmes on TV. I love watching her smile whilst she is watching programmes. It makes the effort seem worthwhile. As long as I can keep her comfortable I believe that I am doing my best. But isn't it tough. I constantly have to remind myself that the illness is not her fault. We live a very simple life now and I pray that I keep relatively fit and healthy. Good luck to you.

Just wanted to offer sympathy, Richard. Have you tried ringing the Dementia Helpline to see if they can offer advice about who you could speak to? Does your local hospital have CPNs (psychiatric nurses) who could visit and listen to how you feel. Try to find out what the facilities are in your area - maybe there is a day centre or counselling service or your GP can offer advice. I do hope you can get some help. You shouldn't have to go through this alone.

Yes, that makes complete sense. It's a sensible thing to do. Can I suggest that you keep a note book of what people tell you - doctors and people who are able to help? You can always ask them to write it in your book for you. Keep it in a bag and take it with you.

Also, some of the people here who have a dementia diagnosis are writing blogs here's Norman's it might help to read it. I know there's others too.

It must be very scary and I think it is important that you have people to talk to. Please keep posting here but also I agree with others that you would benefit from a group - a dementia cafe or similar. Your GPs practice should be able to give you details. But write everything down.

If you have a phone you can put appointments in the phone calendar to give you a pop-up alert. Maybe you can can find other people in your area who also have dementia? Once again a local organisation such as Alzheimers Association should be able to help.

You could also put an app on your phone to record your phone calls and then you can play them back a few times if needed.

Most of all you will find that there's always someone here who will listen and communicate and try and help. Don't ever worry about being judged. All of us - people with dementia and people who care for people with dementia - struggle along together. It's a great resource and you are not alone.

Do you mean you want to check the way you are feeling with a professional person? If so, the CPN, Community psychiatric nurse, would be the person to talk to or some other specialist, such as your Memory Clinic doctor. I can understand you want to talk about how you are feeling and thinking.

As la lucia says above, take notes of things you want to ask about it and take them along to the appointment with you.

And maybe the dementia café would be a good idea. Does someone from the NHS run it? There would be other people you could swap your thoughts with and find out if they feel the same. It is good to interact with other people, in any case, as socialising helps the brain to function better.

Try something new in the New Year. All the best.

I have dementia and needs to talk to someone

Talking is good so keep posting, as others have said speaking to the helpline would be a good start. Sorry you haven’t got support from your family maybe they are in denial and don’t want to think anything is wrong see if you can have a heart to heart talk with them in how you feel xx

Thank you for your replies and Happy New Year.

I tried using note book, but started writing like a diary. I will try again.

Looking at the Norms Blog... think this is good idea.

The longer I go on the more away and isolated I feel. it has been so long since I have really talked to anyone. Going out worries me.

I am going to ask doctor about this psychiatric nurse. I know it is strange but I am not sure what I want to say but I no I need to talk about it.

Just started 10mg Donepezil so feeling bit head full but it will clear like it did before when started on 5mg.

Thank you for taking the time to write a reply.

Finn is my dog and I would be lost without him!

hello Richard and Fin
I came across this scheme and wonder if you might find it helpful
https://www.ageuk.org.uk/services/befriending-services/
it needs your postcode entered into the search box, otherwise I'd have looked using the location on your profile - or is there an AgeUK branch near you as they will know about local support - this is their national number 0800 055 6112

as you enjoy Fin's company, I wonder if there are any dog groups near you - I guess your local library would be able to find out for you

have you contacted your Local Authority Adult Services and asked for an assessment of your care needs as you have a right to this - they may be able to offer a place at a day centre to socialise with others, and transport to get there and back - I think this is the number 01905 768053 (from the Worcestershire Council website

I did put in your village to the main AS site listings of local services, and this is the result - just click on it to see the list

I find it very sad and frustrating that sone people who are living with Dementia have little support or anyone to talk to. My dad who passed away in March was very lucky to still have the support of myself and other family members. Having talking point is a blessing and i encourage anyone that is able to use it to do so. I have started a blog which i will be posting to giving advice and support in all aspects of livibg with Dementia. I will also try and answer any questions people may have aswell as being a sounding board to anyone that just needs to talk.
