Need a wheelchair?

Long story short - dad wanted a wheelchair for mam because she's become so slow at walking that it's affecting his own legs, trying to walk at her pace. He thought if he could push her in a wheelchair sometimes it would help.

A trawl round our local mobility shops and the one he wanted was £355. That's a lot to pay when he didn't even know whether mam would sit in it.

I found them a factory reconditioned one almost identical on eBay for £62! It was so easy, free delivery or local pickup at Argos (he chose the latter), and it's absolutely perfect. You can't tell it's a reconditioned one.

I'd definitely recommend taking a look online before paying out for an expensive shop model.

Hope this helps someone!

Also, you can get them for free following an occupational health assessment, and the wheelchair will be specifically 'made to measure' to ensure that it's comfortable for the person using it.

This can vary, in our area we would only get a voucher towards the cost of buying a chair.

Dad tried that route and months later is still waiting for the assessment, unfortunately, which is why he thought he'd just buy one!

The Red Cross also sell reconditioned wheelchairs and other mobility equipment such as walkers as well as 3 month loan of all sorts of useful things.

It's taken NHS four months but mum's now had her assessment. Now we wait for the wheel chair!
