A new stage in my life...................

And good morning from me.
My last morning sitting on this balcony. I feel really blessed. We came in cooler conditions and we will be leaving in cooler air. As I sit here, I hear the pitter patter of rain drops on the leaves. Some trees already have parched leaves and the rustle in the gentle breeze is hypnotising. The thunder and lightning, stemming from the mountains around us, makes me think of a power force that I know little about. The birds seemed to be lulled by the rain. Maybe they realise this will bring them plenty of food when it ceases?! I hear a solitary crow cawing in a tree close by. Already the earth seems fresher, brighter and healthier.
When the rain began we were on the terrace having our breakfast. Shortly after the young women tourists started dancing in the rain. It made me smile and remember my youth.
The rain drops are now huge and heavy. The sounds are magnified.
I think "farewell Rishikesh, farewell Govind and the tuk tuks. Farewell balcony and farewell to all the people that have made our trip so wonderful". I don't yet feel as if I'm going home. I feel I have another day and night in Delhi and wonder what that will hold for us. THEN, my being will embrace returning to Martin and my lovely home. I look forward to talking with my daughter and catching up with friends and family.
LASTLY, I go home to some very serious medical issues which have to be addressed. It is very difficult for me because I feel incredibly well and haven't had a moment of illness. Still, I'm sure I will be guided. Whilst here I haven't given it a moments thought and this is what enables me to have such rich experiences. I live in the moment and this moment is very good.

Helen I love that you wrote: " I live in the moment and this moment is very good" I have been trying to achieve that for some time so maybe I will have to go to India to find it. Or maybe if I just keep walking forward I will get there. Anyway thank you for your wisdom.
Sylvia, you have got so much out of your trip. I knew you would find a new kind of peace but you have found so much more. I hope that feeling lasts when you return home. I think it was very brave of you returning to a place you had shared with your husband and in doing so finding it even better than you remembered. Bravo!

Lovely to read your last posts from Rishikesh, and that you have been fortunate with a dramatic change in the weather to make your journey to Delhi more comfortable than in the oppressive and exhausting heat of lately.
Helen you paint such wonderful pictures of your surroundings and bring them to life.
A blessing that you have the gift of living in the moment and how good the present one is. I wish you continuing strength for what lies ahead concerning your medical issues.

Thank you for your good wishes regarding our journey. This message is just a quick one as I am really tired and I think Sylvia will probably already be tucked up ready for sleep.
Instead of the journey taking 5 hours, it took 10
Sylvia had all the symptoms of a UTI so was very uncomfortable. Fortunately, our toilet stops were all western toilets so were bearable. I enjoyed the sight seeing, especially a few hamlets which seemed like 15th or 16th century Britain. Many oxen were used as transport - we shared the road with them plus rickshaws, tuk tuks, bicycles, mopeds pedestrians, horses, dogs, buses, lorries, carts, taxis and cars Sometimes the traffic was 4 or 5 abreast. The papping of horns, the machine gun sound of tuk tuks, dogs barking and a million voices permeated the air constantly. We were longing to reach our hotel.
Well we did reach it after 10 hours in the taxi. We were taken to a room which they expected us to share I insisted we had booked and paid for two rooms. They then escorted me to my room. Well there was no way I could possibly relax in that room. It had a fusty smell. When I looked behind the curtains I was faced with a wooden board so there was no window. There was no top sheet. The food was a room service menu. There was no chance I could trust food in such a grubby place and then having to eat it in our rooms.
We decided to go out to find somewhere to eat. We were walking along a back street in Delhi and it was horrible. We got to the main road and we came across a very nice looking place. I asked if they had a restaurant and they did. As soon as we entered the hotel we saw how clean it was. It was air conditioned and the reception was smart. Without thinking I went to the receptionist and told him we had just arrived at a grubby hotel down the back street and wondered if he had two rooms we could have for the night. They did and offered to show us the rooms. They were perfect. He offered to reduce the price for us so we got the room plus breakfast for £30 each. He sent two lads with us to collect our belongings.
We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent although we were really to tired to have much of an appetite.
Let's hope Sylvia is much more comfortable tomorrow.

Oh that was such a shame after the wonderful time you've had.
I'm glad you were able to turn it around by finding that other place to stay though.
Poor Sylvia, I hope she will be ok. Try to get her to drink loads of cranberry juice if you can find it and some bi-carb in water if you can! This will help until she can get ABs.

Helen what a long update especially when you are so tired. Sorry about your extended journey but pleased to read your determination has sorted somewhere comfortable for you both. Poor Sylvia, I hope her symptoms abate and that she has no discomfort for the remainder of your journey. Have a good night's rest you'll soon be back on UK soil. Wishing you a good flightxx

I'm thinking that at the very least you should be able to get a urinary analgesic from them.
Also, you might be able to buy pyridium over the counter at a pharmacy, either at the airport on on your way there.

Thanks Helen for the late update when you were so tired. No wonder after a 10 hour journey then a horrid hotel. What a relief you managed to sort that out. Hope you both have a restful night before your flight home. Not long now….

The symptoms of a UTI seem to have eased now I'm drinking but thank you Jennifer I will see if I can buy pyridine to help.
The saga of the hotel has been spelt out for you by Helen so I won't duplicate. All I can say is I felt dismay when I entered the room.
It was painted in Orange and bright blue and had silver wall paper covered in stars on the bed head wall. The bed looked ok apart from the thick afghan looking blanket and as Helen said no top sheet.
There was a tiny coffee table on which we were expected to eat our room service dinner and ' luxury' breakfast. Behind my curtains was a padlocked wooden door and antiquated air conditioning system.
I would have put up with it for one night although I wouldn't have eaten anything, but Helen said her room was worse than mine and although I didn't bother climbing the stairs to see it, I believed her.
As we were walking down this sleazy side street to try to find somewhere to eat, I said '. Come back S***, all is forgiven , naming the company we travelled to India with previously, where the hotels were 5* and up to the minute in every detail. I felt awful as I had booked this hotel and tendering my complaint will be one of the first things I do when I get home.
So the hotel we are now in was a godsend.
Believe it or not , after one night in this lovely hotel I have Delhi belly. it's not surprising . I got it before even in the best hotel. It has put my UTI on the back burner.
Anyway Helen is fine which is more important Delhi belly wise and I won't die. Perhaps the relief after such a long journey, being so tired , finding such a dreadful hotel and then this lovely one made me a bit careless, I don't know.

I think I'll tell her to register with TP otherwise it will take an age.
