Full moon syndrome

I don't know if I am convinced there is a link to my MIL mood swings around a full moon yet. I have been noticing though that around this time of month she is more unsettled at night time. I know we are not complete full moon yet but last night after third attempt of going to bed. (She had escaped from the basement that we don't have,) it took me a while to get her settled. Does anyone else notice changes around this time of month. And can we do anything to help alleviate this.

Oh yes it is probably right, I haven't noticed a change in my husband who has vascular dementia but my son (who has ADHD) when he was a child if ever his behaviour was really bad I could check and usually found out it was the full moon, it happened too often to be a coincidence, sorry I don't know of anything that can help.

I always think of lunatic and lunar for the moon which was a old way of saying someone who was not quite right in the head, I hope I haven't upset you saying this but I wonder if it is connected,

Best wishes Jeany x

Jeany. Thank you this doesn't upset me at all. My MIL has vascular dementia and for a few months now I have noticed this change. A friend of mine who is an Occupational therapist had done a training session on patients with dementia and this subject has been brought up as a possibility, but when I've asked nurses about it they don't seem to know anything. So I thought who better to ask than other carers. So thank you. X

my friend's daughter has some sort of schizoid disorder and gets worse once a month, they thought it was female issues related but are now noticing that it is to do with the moon. When you think of the effect it has on the tides, the ability to move the seas, it would not be out of the question for it to have an effect on us too.

Very interesting. Mum didn't have any such issues but I will suggest my daughter keeps track of my 6 yr old grandson as he has been tested for ASD and his teacher has now requested he's tested for ADHD.

When my mum became very manic we were always really surprised that it coincided with the full moon. We were convinced that it made a difference but hadn't really heard of it before. I am glad that someone else has mentioned this

I was a headteacher and we always used to say the children were much more unsettled around the time of a full moon.

Hi I can second this my younger brother also has ADHD and has autistic features too, he was always a lot worse with a full moon. His specialist doctor didn't know how or why it was connected but she did say it was regularly brought up with a lot of her patients. Maybe one day we will have an answer :) take care

horror!

I assure you that there is a SEVERE reaction to some of us, and the moon. I have no connection until Nov. 2013. At first I noticed 3 days before the New Moon and 3 days after. Then as time went on it was the same with the Full Moon! It was like clockwork, which actually was good because then I could plan "living" around it. Then the days changed and in Jan. I only had 2 GOOD days, Feb 7 GOOD days, now none in March so far; in fact worse than ever except the Nov 2013 day! We are searching for ourself! Remind them to take their meds. I wish i could tell you how to help your loved one: lots of light, white, bright colors in room; take a long drive, hold them and say nothing. As much as those help = they are NO help inside the brain only a recess of a sort.
