Hi all
We have an assessment on Monday afternoon for NHS CC for my dad who has recently been placed in an EMI nursing home. We are fully clued up and will be going into it fighting. If anyone has any last minute tips for us then that would be fab.
Wish us luck, we're going to need it!!!!!!! :):)

Just to reinforce your determination to go in fighting, I'll say to you what I've said to a lot of people seeking help from public services that have been cutback - you don't just need to show that your dad is entitled to the care or needs the care, in reality you need to show that he needs the care more than a lot of other deserving and entitled people.

In other words, if, say, someone with a tick chart is looking in theory at a threshold of 50/100, don't aim for 51/100, aim at 95/100.

Don't worry about offending the assessors.
I just said I was not paying and said I would get a solicitor involved.
Within 2 hours I was asked to return to the hospital and my step mother had been awarded CHC funding.

Good for you! Yes, go in with your eyes focused on the prize. As William said, don't worry too much about hurting feelings. Be as clear and concise as you can. Take notes, or better yet-ask if you may record the meeting. My husband asked and they were kind enough to allow him to.

Much luck!

Thanks for your replies everyone.
I am sure we now know more about the system than they will. I have been researching for weeks. We are going to be polite but firm and not let them get away with anything. They have made a catalogue of errors from the start.
Firstly dads sw told my sister quote: you will never get it in a million years, you have to be practically dead'. She is now no longer his sw as I had her taken off the case for her lies, patronising comments and total lack of professionalism. I would urge others to do the same if they are not happy. Having said that we are now still waiting for his new sw to do her assessment of dad. If she turns up for the CHC meeting tomorrow and thinks she can make a judgement on my dads health needs then she's got another think coming. She has never even met him!!!!
I don't hold out much hope that they will grant it but we are going to fight the b******* all the way. Dad brought myself and my sister up on his own as we lost mum to breast cancer when I was only 7. He worked all his life, fed us well, loved us and he did a fantastic job. Now he has dementia and numerous other comorbidities and they are trying to take the house from us but they won't succeed.

Makes me feel sick when they try to take houses away from families who have someone with Dementia.
Don't ever forget what William has said,

I would get a solicitor involved.

My family has a brilliant one, and we are never afraid to say he will be involved if necessary.
Good luck and don't let them win.

Hi
We had a telephone appointment with Beacon - a company associated to Age UK who specialise in CHC assessments.I heard about them on Radio 4. They were extremely helpful and would also handle an appeal for you. You might want to consider a discussion- you have to pay though.

Remember you need to focus on the nursing care - all her needs need to be anticipated as she cannot express them herself, skin breakdown etc. But I'm sure you know all this!

Good luck

Just a quick update on Dad
The meeting didn't take place as dad was taken to hospital this morning with very low blood pressure.
Still awaiting news
