My husband is in his 13th year of alzheimers. He has been in a good, specialist, dementia care home for nearly 2 years. The home manager feels she can no longer keep him there due to numerous incidents. She called in CMHT and they said that he did not meet the criteria to be sectioned. They are trying antipsychotics which are not working yet.
Is there anywhere that can take him and keep him safe?

hello Marie Rose
what a worry for you - it may well be that the meds aren't working YET, as you say, but will gradually take effect
it's good that the manager has called for support - do they or the manager have any suggestions?
sorry not to have any specific ideas
best wishes

Hi Marie Rose, I'm in exactly the same situation as you are I' m afraid. My husband has been given 28 days notice to leave the home he is in because they say they can no longer meet his needs without giving a chance for a change in the timing of his meds to work. He is a wanderer and he's managed to get out of the building 3 times since Christmas. Where do you send someone which is secure.? Why in this day and age do we not have the facilities? I hope you have someone to support you. xx

CMHT and the manager each think it's the other's responsibility. I practically had to referee the argument between them.

Hi Marie Rose,

I'm so sorry to hear about the situation with your husband. My Dad has recently been exhibiting violent\aggressive behaviour and at one point there was a suggestion that the CH may not be able to cope if it continued. It is very distressing to learn this. He is on anti-psychotic medication and this is being monitored.

Will there be an ongoing review of your husband's medication? Might there be alternative medication that might work better? At the time of the first incident, I contacted Dad's old Occupational Therapist and a contact at the local Alzheimer's Society. Both were very helpful in understanding what the options might be and I am also now in touch with the CPN who is visiting Dad regularly to help monitor.

I do hope a solution can be found. Take care, Georgina x
