Where do Alzheimer sufferers who are sectioned under section 3, 117 go in Oxfordshire when they do not meet the criteria for an EMI Nursing Home? Please private message me.

Rosebay,

You are sounding pretty desperate.

I am gong to suggest you contact the following for guidance:

Alzheimer's Society
Scroll down teh page and put in your post code for the office nearest to you. They have loads of local knowledge and are a good place to offload to.

https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/

Admiral Nurses
The main helpline number is at the top of the page:

https://www.dementiauk.org/?gclid=C...K2zP6eTn858eFO-OQMOpoJsPFY9Abw02-QhoCb6Tw_wcB

More for offloading and practical ideas.

I am sure other TPers will also come up with their own expereince and suggestions.

Take care.

Thank you for your reply I have already made contact with the local Alzheimer's society support worker and even she could not answer my question and is going to investigate further. There must be sectioned patients in this county my husband can't be the only one. Although my husband is still In an assessment centre in Cheshire he can't stay there forever so what's going to happen next that's what I am struggling with. I had not thought of admiral nurses thank you for that.

Thank you for link Kevinl I have looked at it and again I have come up with another dead end. Here I am close to both mine and my husbands family but without the one person that matters the most to me. This move was suppose to be for both of us to get the help and support we needed in the latter stage of this terrible illness.

Rosebay,

The other place to try is your local Council. They should have an online, accessible list, but they will be happy to post a printed copy, of all the care homes in the county.

The listings indicate what type of care/nursing homes they are. In my search I also double checked with the online CQC (Care Quality Commission) reports.

The council should also be able to guide, no recommend, you to the type of care homes you are looking for.

Best of luck.

Thank you I have this booklet but as my husband needs specialised nursing because he is at risk to himself and others so far no nursing home will take him. Hence my question where do patients like my husband go in Oxfordshire. I use to visit him every day and now it can only be for a few days once a month but I will never give up getting him moved near enough to visit every day again

Rosebay,

This sounds more like something the Social Worker should be involved in. I would also contact the advice lines I suggested to guide you on this.

Would it be possible for your husband to be transferred from Cheshire (I assume he's in hospital or an assessment unit) to the NHS Trust in Oxfordshire?
http://www.oxfordhealth.nhs.uk/about-us/contact-us
For now this would mean he's closer to you. Then it's up to them to source somewhere more permanent.
I agree that it should be the mental health team or social services that should be doing this, not you.

As has been said Rosebay this is the responsibility of the social worker or whoever is responsible for discharging in the hospital. This is who should be looking for vacancies and liaising with you. You should not have this put on your sole shoulders. Has someone been telling you that it is your responsibility? If so this is very wrong. Best wishes.

My social worker has told me there is no where in Oxfordshire that can take my husband so he will stay in hospital there. That's why I have been trying to get an answer to my question. Is no one ever sectioned here ???

Try going 'further up the chain' with your social worker - they are only people, they can make mistakes like anyone, he/she may simply have got it wrong or misunderstood/misinterpreted things and is thinking they are giving you correct info when they are not. Ask to speak to or have an appointment with their head of department.

But I am afraid it may be that the only suitable accommodation for your husband is out of your area/county. It happens with a lot of medical conditions, specialist heart care, rehab for spinal injuries, brain injury specialists etc etc may all only be located in a small number of facilities across the country.

If that is the case it may be that the best you can do is find the nearest facility or the one that is most easily accessible to you and that may be in another county again. :(

Thank you Essie. You may be right patients here like my husband may be moved out of county that's why I can't find anywhere
I now have information from the local Alzheimer's society which i am following up but I think i am going to have to accept in the interim any way that my husband and I are going to be separated until the hospital he is being transferred to discharges him to a Oxfordshire nursing home. I just wish he could have come straight here from the assessment unit. I just wish he had never been sectioned. I just wish I had never put him into respite whilst I was sorting out our new house. I just wish he never fractured his skull and then we would be happily retired and enjoying ourselves !!!!

Has your husband got a care coordinator such as someone that works for social services who is regularly involved if so they will be able to tell you what places in your area that would be suitable for his needs.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately my care coordinator is based in Cheshire and has no knowledge of the Oxfordshire area and she has come back to me with nowhere here can meet my husbands specialised nursing needs under section. I now have contact numbers for the Oxfordshire mental health team which I am going to contact tomorrow. I will let you know outcome maybe they can appoint a care coordinator to liaise with Cheshire. I hope it's not another dead end. Will post again when I have some news.

I think you may need to be very determined and fight for support in Oxfordshire. In some areas services are under such pressure and places for people with challenging behaviour are in very short supply. The MH teams in Oxfordshire may not want to prioritise moving somebody else into their area if resources are already stretched.
