Hi All,
I have made a visit here as I am looking for good respite care in the West Yorks area if anyone has any recommendations. WE don't need nursing care as such as my uncle is quite independent. Its getting urgent so anywhere that can assist quickly would be an absolute godsend.
But, having read some of the threads I can see some of the problems he has that may be related to Dementia rather than a undiagnosed physical problem.
Gurgling voice, mainly on an evening. (What is this?)
Problems eating, feeling the need to be sick or "get out" the food he has swallowed.
Eating very little but less problem getting sweet food down!! Hes lost weight.
Hes struggling to take or keep the tablets down which doesn't help either.
We have spoken to doctors, social workers and specialists for his stomach (he'll be having an endoscopy soon but as its not a problem for all foods I suspect its not physical) and no one has linked these things to Dementia.
Its eased my concerns a little - the social worker has suggested his current living arrangements (with me until a permanent place which can meet his needs without removing his independence prematurely) are causing him unhappiness and he might be better living in an area where we could visit once a month.
Thanks, its still hard work but it'll be easier now I understand it a little better.
