She had 4 different courses of antibiotics before she went in hospital, in A E they gave her some on a drip ,now they are giving her more on the ward where she is now .

Jass, my mum just back home after 4 weeks in hospital with uti. Not all antibiotics clear u.t.i's so maybe the hospital are trying different ones until they find the right one. Not eating is common, not drinking will be a big problem. Try jelly, yogurt, cup a soups etc. The antibiotic that worked for my mum was augmentin. Its heartbreaking to see mums so poorly but try not to worry as if no other medical problems the medics do fix it eventually. Wilf.

Mom still in hospital over the last 3 days as I have visited her I have had to take her to the toilet every 10 minutes told the nurse to make a note of how many times she is going and doing hardly anything. To day they came to tell me she is ready to be discharged I told them that she was still going to the loo and I was not prepared to have her home like this they say she has not got UTI I have a meeting Sunday for a social worker to assess what help mom requires .i have coped for years but cannot cope with the on and off toilet all day should I tell them I will walk away unless they sort her proplem, she looked poorly to day and her feet were swollen .she has been in four weeks

Care

Have they sent off a sample of her Urine to check which infection she has, then they can give her the correct ones, once they know this they should put her on IV antibiotics until the infection clears, they should re check her urine after the fist bag of antibiotic has gone through, also she should be on IV fluids and a fluid income and outgoing chart ??. Might be an idea to catheterise while she is so poorly, so she can rest with her legs elevated so the swelling to go down. Also physio need to be involved for mobilising while she is in bed. Also on an air mattress to stop pressure sores. She should also have her bloods check to make sure her kidneys are ok, due to the constant infections.
Maybe also a wond nurse specialist incase her swollen legs break down. Hope this is helpfull, ask if i can be of any further help.

Refuse to take her home as she is not well and they have a duty of care to your mum. Make them do all the above and also you want to speak with her consultant to see what care plan has been put in place ??.

Been again today stayed for an hour took her 3 times to toilet complaning of back ache could hardly walk on her walker. I left early and phoned the social worker who I should see on Sunday to access mom .left message I will not be there not having mom out while she is still like she is .i would have stayed longer but I know she would keep asking to go to the loo. Told nurse to tell the doctor again she said she has been going a lot today I had no sleep thinking of how she was when ambulance took her in I can't go through that again waiting in AE for 8 hours before they put her on a ward .
