Making phone calls

I am hoping somebody can help me please. I seem to remember reading somewhere that it is possible to block certain calls being made from the phone of somebody with dementia so they can only call legitimate numbers, ie, relatives. We seem to have a rather serious problem with my Mum calling high call rate numbers and obviously need to stop her from doing this. Does anybody know about this please?

You don't specify provider but assuming BT

You can block calling all international or premium rate numbers.

http://www.broadband.bt.com/line-rental/?s_cid=con_FURL_linerentalplus

There is also the free Network Controlled Calling which will only allow calls to a specified list of up to 10 numbers plus 999, 112, 151.

http://www.bt.com/includingyou/redesign2012/assets/downloads/NetworkControlledCalling.pdf

You can also buy phones with inbuilt facilities e.g.

Thank you so much, I shall get onto this straight away, really grateful.

I have a bog standard cordless phone and it allows me to save numbers then sort them into groups and determine which group (numbers of friends and family) is the one whose calls will be heard - all others can be put on silence, either round the clock or on certain times of the day. It has dramatically cut down on the number of sales calls we receive, and the ones that still call simply don't get heard and therefore not answered. The only prerequisite is that you pay for caller display.

I am glad you have posted this Beate, thank you. My friend is struggling with this, i.e. sales calls from dubious providers which she's been plagued with for years. I managed to call Virgin , registered her fro TPS several years ago now. They said they would put on some other call barring register, should take 2 weeks and if problem persists then she will need to pay £2.70 a month:eek: extra for 6 months which apparently is usually long enough for call companies to delete numbers from their lists because they don't get required response.

Can you give details of your phone as this may be a much better option but I'd have a lot of fun:rolleyes: trying to set it up but then friends and family numbers are very few:rolleyes: so maybe wouldn't be too difficult.

Thanks
Sue:)

It's a Philips DECT 525. I've had it for over a decade. Just trying to find the manual but it's gone AWOL. When I bought it I didn't know it could do that, I just happened to read the manual one day. I am sure other phones can do this kind of thing too. It wasn't very difficult to set up.

Edit: I found the manual online. The feature is called Do Not Disturb Mode: http://www.manualslib.com/manual/178244/Philips-Dect5252b-05.html?page=49#manual

Disclaimer: I am not advertising this particular phone just showing you what my phone can do. I am reasonably sure other phones can do the same.

I've got a BT 6500 which also blocks withheld number, international numbers (Indian call centres), and any individual numbers you specify. It has made a brilliant difference
