Thumbs up I've Bought a New Clock - Living Spirit Fliptop Clock

As well as AD my mother has Macular Degeneration - the dry one - that cannot be treated so her eyesight is poor.

I have been looking for a clock that will not just tell her the time but also the date and day on a clear face.

Whilst searching 'tinternet' last week I came across the Living Spirit Fliptop Clock. Like all these things it was not cheap but eureka it works. The background is black but has large white letters and the day, date and month flip over automatically (batteries). Saturday and Sunday are different colours to the rest of the week - red & green.

It can go on the wall, but I have stood it next to my mum and she can see it well although at the moment it is a case of getting her to look in the right place but I am hopeful of the hit and miss improving.

I bought it from a large High Street catalogue retailer (if you cannot guess PM me and I'll tell you). It did cost £60 but it was the cheapest that I could find in this type of 'aid' clock (some are £175 which I view as exploitive).

So far I would say it is a good buy and if you need something along these lines would suggest you take a look.

    Good job.

I'm moving this thread to resources as that is the most appropriate place for it.

That looks great I hope it is useful to your mum, I bought a similar one but it had to be changed manually each day,Allen took it to pieces to see how it worked ,

    Hi,
I do believe I have the same clock. Its been a God send, after a lot of moaning from my mum, when I first put it out. She would not have anything else put on the wall. But at least on the side in the lounge, she certainly can't miss it.

    That's a nice-looking clock -

Looks like Argos, Homebase and Amazon (with delivery) all have the same price. Same marketing blurb, too - 'retro' and 'quirky', they say; I'd probably say 'clear' and 'functional'.

Quite agree that the price of some clocks is shocking, and the range of choices isn't that great if your priority is functionality rather than fashion - see previous posting:
Clock with time, day and full date?

Interestingly, one person found that with a similar clock, their father tended to interpret the four-digit year at the top as being the time. You can see how someone could reasonably assume that.

Argos and Homebase are owned by the same company so the often have the same stock.

MIL could never remember to look at the massive clock we got but would ring us up to ask the time. She was standing facing the clock as she dialled.

I have put the clock next to where mum sits and we 'practice' each day where to look and overall I think we are winning

A lady in my husband's home who has poor eyesight has a talking clock. She carries it everywhere with her,. It's about 3" square.

I got my husband a talking watch for his birthday from Maplin only £14.99, he loves it. He can only read a digital clock now and this watch has large numbers, can tell you the time every hour, can tell you the date and has 4 talking alarms.
