What can we expect to happen?

My wife, age 56, was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with an"unusual" form of Alzheimer's. It's either Posterior Cortical Atrophy or Corticobasal Deterioration. We're waiting on another scan to determine which. Can anybody tell us how these develop or guide us to any websites with information. Thank you.

Just wanted to say welcome, and you will find support here. It is qlways a shock to find out that a loved one has Dementia, you will find that there is good information on this site.

Dementia is about one step at a time, and it affects everyone in different ways, so people on this site have lots of different experiences to share. Loss of some memory, does not always mean a loss of other skills and people can manage really well with the right support for a long time.

When you get a confirmed diagnosis, you could ask the Consultant to explain more, you may also have access to a CPN - a nurse with experience of Dementia who should be able to tell you a bit more.

It must have been so difficult for you & your wife to be told this but not to be given further information.

I haven't any personal experience of this type but the main Alzheimer's Society site has some very good information. You might like to try this link

I'm sure there will be other members along soon who know more than me.

    PCA or CBA websites

    Hi,
    Try...
    www[dot]pcasupport.ucl.ac.uk
    or
    www[dot]pspeur.org/care_and_support/what_is_cbd/
    or
    www[dot]pcaforum.org.uk
    or
    www[dot]coconutbeach.co.uk

There's also a PCA factsheet on this Alzheimers.org website.
    Regards
