leaving hot water tap on.. any gadgets?

    just a quick question...

mum has started leaving the hot water tap on every night when she goes to the loo. Dad gets up and has no idea how long it's been left on but it's probably hours. God knows what their next gas bill will be.
is there such a thing that could fit on the tap that times it and if the tap is left on, it will automatically switch off after a certain time?

he doesn't want a push down tap (like you get in public toilets) because it would be a pain filling up the sink when he wants to shave.

    cheers

You could get a plumber in to do a simple job under the sink. It involves cutting the water pipe/s and putting small valves on like you have with a washing machine. These are unobstrusive and quite cheap. Your dad could then turn the taps off at night and turn them on as needed. It would not take a plumber more than an hour to do this.

I have to say I resorted to laminated notes in the kitchen and bathroom. It worked and I think the 'phase ' has now passed!

It would be simpler if she left the plug in, they make alarms for water levels.. but that wouldn't work if she just leaves the taps running with no plug in

Thought I would mention it in case anyone who is having flooding problems has been reading this
