    MRI Results

I've just got home from hospital and i'm feeling sorry for myself.

The scan shows i have dis-located my jaw,and the disc in my face isn't there anymore.

I've been told not to chew, liquidised diet, and not to yawn at all.I have to have a mouth guard at night and part of the day,and an operation in a few months.

The NHS won't supply the guard,my dentist has quoted £300,and we can't afford it,so i don't know what to do...so fed up.

I'm so sorry to hear this Kassy. What a blow, especially about the cost of the guard.
Oddly enough I have been for my check-up with the Dentist today and I mentioned that the pain in my right jaw had now become a clicking whenever i ate on that side so was only able to eat on my left side. He said that it was the cartilage popping out every time I opened my mouth. He said that the night guard I already have for my migraine might help as it is the grinding that is causing it. This is only a simple guard which cost me about £20 privately but he did mention a much more accurate and more expensive one but said there was no guarantee that either would really help long term - it certainly doesn't help with the headaches!

It is positive that there is an operation that can help you. I hope you have it soon as i know you have been in pain for some time. you will feel reborn once it is done I'm sure. However in the meantime you have to suffer - I am sorry. love and sympathy XXX

I am sorry to hear that Kassy. There must be funding for the mouth guard if it is essential for your health. I wonder whether you could apply to a charitable trust such as the following? http://www.benenden.org.uk/charitable-assistance There are many of these trusts Kassy and some of them are specifically for people in your situation.

When I think of drinking through a straw, I always think of MacDonalds milkshakes cos they are so thick with ice cream that it is an effort to suck it up the straw Delicious.
Seriously, I know that you said you don't like soups so I can only hope that you find some delicious recipes that are full of goodness that can be liquidised and taste lovely. Do you have lots of herbs in your lovely garden?

Thanks Saffie. The consultant was horrible, lectured me about my weight,i've lost a stone,i'm now 7 stone 10,then he tells me to drink soup through a straw, and i hate soup.

When i said i couldn't afford the mouth guard,he looked down his nose at me,i very nearly said 'we're not all on your salary',but i held it in.

I was told when i had my last lung op that i don't do well under anaesthetic, any operation has to be absolutely necessary.

Hello kassy, I can imagine how worrying this must be for you. Will the guard stop your jaw getting any worse before surgery. ? It doesn't sound as if the consultant was very helpful especially regarding the success of the surgery. Thinking of you.

perhaps you could seek a second opinion, to check whether the guard is totally necessary?

Thanks,i can only get a cheaper guard if i'm on benefits, and i'm not.The PCT won't fund it(where have i heard that before). We're making a list of things in the house to sell, not that we've got anything of value.Someone up there doesn't like me.

Kassy, I am sorry to hear that your results weren't good. Is there another consultant, with a more sympathetic attitude, that you could discuss your options. It's always worth asking - phone your gp.

    Take care. xx

Hi Jan,my GP wasn't interested,my dentist referred me to hospital. He is the only specialist in TMJ syndrome in this area.To be honest i think i'll just not bother with any of it now,i hate it when you tell someone you can't afford something and are made to feel like scum.
