Hi Jeany - you have had some good advice already but would just add that if you have areas of hard skin that you don't want to scrape away, its always worth massaging in some sweet almond oil (buy small bottles of it over the counter at that cobbler chemist) and that won't remove the skin but it will soften the hard/ dried skin and make it more comfortable.

It would Jeany - you can also use olive oil if you have some although that is a bit denser and harder to get to be absorbed - almond oil is nice and light. xx

    Hi Jeany,

At the risk of sounding like Grannie G's proverbial coconut oil evangelist, but actually I am just trying to help! I am finally reading the literature and was surprised to find out that coconut oil has strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties...... so if you use that as an emolient, like a regular skin cream, you might solve the problem, and your best guy will still have smooth, healthy skin.

This is not based on my experience, but my reading. It appears that people with HIV have a compromised immune system, and they can get bacterial infections, skin sores, and fungi living unhindered where previously their own immune system would have zapped them all to kingdom come. Apparently the coconut oil has been of significant help in killing bacteria and viruses and fungi whilst moisturising.

I would think it is important also to let air circulate in the area, to keep it dry and sweat free..... when Dad was bed-bound (post stroke and paralysis) he always sat on a woolly lamb's fleece (sheep skin in other words), and the air circulated and he never, ever had pressure sores or skin complaints.

Hope you can get to the bottom of this soon (excuse the rotten pun!), but what a conscientious and loving carer you are. You are giving your special Beloved the best care in the world. Good for you. xx BE

Hope something helps Jeany, you'll have to give Allen the choice of an Almond Bu(m) or a Coconut one

Hope you have a good day
