My Dad is currently in a mental health unit pending a proper diagnoses of a current 'paranoid episode' but does have vascular dementia.
He owns his house outright (following the death of my Mum a couple of years ago) but my Nan (his mother-in-law) lives there & has done so for approx 6-7 years. Although my Nan is 91, she only has carers come in morning & evening to get her dressed and then she spends the day at a day centre. However, she does need someone with her during the night due to being very anxious and also to prepare her breakfast & tea. At this time there is no need for her to go into a home.
My point is that should my dad ever need to go into a home himself, where would it leave my nan? Whilst my dad is in hospital I am staying, but this appears to be for an indefinite amount of time and I also have to consider my family ( two young children & hubby). Would we be ok to live there on a permanent basis, assuming there were sufficient funds to pay for his care without selling the property or is this out of the question? (it is the home I grew up in & has a lot of sentimental value).
Hope someone has some suggestions.....thank you.
