    Improving the Health of Carers

    Hello,

I am a post-graduate student studying at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. I am currently conducting a research project investigating the health of caregiver's who care for family members with dementia and Alzheimer's. The project consists of a number of questionnaires which investigate sleep, burden and coping in caregivers.

If you are a carer who cares for a family member with dementia, your participation in this study would be very helpful in furthering our understanding of caregiver health and how it differs between caregivers. Your information will be kept completely anonymous and confidential.

The results of this study will hopefully enable further research which will ultimately benefit the lives of carers and their health.

TO PARTICIPATE IN THE STUDY, PLEASE COPY AND PASTE THE LINK BELOW INTO YOUR URL BAR

If you have any questions about the study or would like more information, please don't hesitate to contact us. Our e-mail can be found on the first page of the online survey.

I'd also like to say a big thank you to the administrators of this forum and everyone over at Alzheimer's Society for their help and allowing me to post this research here.

Thank you to everyone who has already taken the time to fill out the survey.

The first part of our analysis will be carried out on the 15th of June and we need a couple more participants. So anyone who hasn't filled out the survey and has the time to do so, please do. This research will really expand our knowledge of carer's health and help us to increase carer's overall well-being in the future.

Thanks again to all those who have already taken part.

I filled in the questionaire, I have to say one section made me seriously annoyed, the one which related to occupation - employed/unemployed/retired. Where was the section for carer? I had to fill in unemployed - I am not unemployed, I work 24/7 for nothing almost. If this is a questionaire about carers why on earth didn't it have a description for them?

I must apologise for this mistake. I completely understand your frustration. We never meant to make any assumption that carers are either employed, unemployed or retired. I understand that many carers are full-time carers and are unable to work due to their caring responsibilities.

I have now edited the answers for the on-line survey so that the option of "Full-time carer" is now an option for the question of occupation.

Apologies again and thank you for taking the time to complete the survey.

Completed. Quite a useful exercise in that I really had to think about how I've been feeling about many things currently going on in my life.

Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to take part. We are now conducting one final collection of data before the results will be collated and a manuscript created for publishing.

If you have not yet taken part in this study and have the time to do so, your response is invaluable to us. Thanks again.
