Our First Visit to Mum in the Care Home

As we live away and I find it very difficult to travel this week has been our first opportunity to visit Mum in her Care Home since she moved in 2 months ago. It was her 92nd birthday on Thursday and despite my trepidation of the visit, I can honestly say that it was the most uplifting of experiences. Not only is she well cared for (I have never seen so much one to one care given) she was the best I have seen her look in years, the sun shone and we spent a lot of time in the gardens. She even got up and played 'swing ball' with my other half for about 2 mins. Never heard her laugh like it. What a tonic. Despite all of this Mum has not a clue who my other half are but that didnt stop us from enjoying these special moments before they are all gone.

Just proves despite negative comments from certain relatives (who'd want them) she is in the best place possible. A bit of good news to report. I came home a different person.

It's nice to hear something positive about care homes for a change ,it upsets me to hear all the awful things,I'm pleased you enjoyed your visit and hope that you have many more .

What a lovely post, I am so glad for you. If I lived anywhere near, I'd move my husband there tomorrow!

Lovely to hear. I so hope that, when this phase comes for my mum, that I will be able to say similar. We can hope!
I know what you mean about those precious happy moments, they are worth so much now.

Thank you. Believe me at times I thought this day would never come. She still has her "spells" but hopefully they will become less and less. They say that laughter is the best tonic. Wish I could bottle it and give everyone in every care home a good dollop of it.

What brilliant news. I'm so pleased for you (and your mum).
