    Just saying hi

Yesterday, three days after his 58th birthday my husband was diagnosed with early onset dementia. The actual term Alzheimer's was not used - I don't know if that will be confirmed further down the road. All I know is that he has been started immediately on Aricept.
I'm torn between being grateful that he is on a medication that will apparently slow things down - but full of dread about what lies ahead. I guess the only way is to take each day at a time and enjoy what we have for as long as we have it. It's hard not to keep looking ahead though.
I am glad that I have found this forum and that I will be able to link up with others who are facing the same journey. x

    Hello Lynne

I find it so sad to hear yet again of another with early [young] onset dementia. I do hope the Aricept helps him.

I know it`s easier said than done but please try not to look too far ahead. My husband was older when diagnosed, he was 72, and I had experienced dementia with my mother so thought I knew what to expect.

However my mother`s progression was very different to my husband`s so I still had to face the unexpected. I think you have the right idea, to take each day as it comes and enjoy as much quality life together as you can.

It`s good you have found the Forum early. It is a wonderful source of support.

Hello LynneMcV, welcome to Talking Point. I am so sorry to read about your husband, but pleased you have found TP. There is a wealth of info and support here, please post whenever you need help or a chat.

There are a great deal of AS factsheets available on the website. This one After A Diagnosis has some helpful advice on what steps you could take.

Very best wishes to you and I look forward to seeing you here again.
