How should we fund long-term elderly care?

the next generation wont be able to !!! Those of us who are carers now and not "economically active" in the world due to caring responsibilities who havent got pension schemes going either, are going to up the creek without a paddle. It really worries me a lot. As all the children of the 60s turn 80......i wonder if there will be so few job opportunities around for our kids (the High Street is getting "computerised") that most of the rare jobs still going will be for carers? I think carers commercially should receive a much higher wage than they do and there should be a lot more respect all round for carers and care homes and EVERYONE who cares. But i think the only long term solution would be (if everyone is going to live to be 100 and lots of teenagers are going to find it impossible to find paid work) is for 3 generations to live under the same roof and all help eachother with living, caring and financing it all. I cant see any other solution for my generation when there will be double the amount of old people to young ones...is this why half my friends are trying to get jobs the other side of the world now???......

In many ways this is a cultural issue. In other countries this is the norm as there are much closer inter-generational bonds.

Also, elsewhere people rent rather than own property; they have to take out insurance to cover health, unemployment etc.
