Thanks all for the support and useful suggestions. Things like adding more butter in the mash, I'm not sure it is possible to add any more butter to our mash, heehee. But we will be definitely trying out some of your suggestions. I have shown my mum this thread, as she is also a carer for her 91yr old MIL who has VD, who has real difficulty trying to get her to eat. So hoping we could get them both eating better soon. I have tried smoothies in the past, with ice cream fruit and milk etc which have gone down quite well and the GP has said that they tend to be more nutritious that things like Fortisip.

Have you tried giving her things that would have been around in her childhood? Jelly, blancmange, tinned fruit with Carnation () on it. MIL used to love my shepard pie - I added 1/2 tsp of caster sugar to it and it was her favourite savoury.

Just as we all learnt to use cutlery I think people with any type of dementia unlearn in the same order so perhaps a smaller spoon might be something she can manage. Children have to learn to like lumps in food so that might also be adding to the problems.
