Hello to anyone kind enough to read this haven't been on here in a while as been so busy caring for my dad, I have had a few problems in the last few days, my dad keeps soiling himself (not urine) also has had 2 accidents on the toilet floor, thankfully I came across it and not one of my little girls. Inco Pants

This is the only solution I can see. This seems to be one of the joys of caring with someone with Alzheimer's !

And Mum wouldn't let me have a kitten at Christmas because "it will S**t and P**s all over the place" LOL

Sorry you're encountering these problems, I know how distressing it can be. My dad has been double incontinent for some months although it started off only with urinary incontinence. You'll need to see your dad's GP about arranging for a district nurse from your PCT's continence service to come and assess him as you should be able to get products through the NHS this way. Stress it's urgent. We use Boots Depends Pull-Up Pants inside which we place an Attends Regular Contours Pad no. 9 which are well designed for this sort of problem. The NHS only supply the pads not the pants which we buy ourselves. The pants they gave us, a light mesh pant, were unfortunately totally inadequate. Also we use lots of Andrex moist tissues for cleaning. I was dad's full time carer for a few years (he's now in a home) and found the best way of dealing with the problem was regular toileting and would often catch it in time but know not everyone has the time for this. Best of luck.

If you have a problem getting the Depends (they sometimes only stock them in bigger branches) they can be purchased via Boots online. Cost is £9.99 for 16 for men. You can also order the pads online but think they're over £30 for 28 so not cheap, however you might need something until your dad has been assessed. Sorry again you're having these problems, we were totally stressed out at the beginning and had many accidents but having the right products helped considerably.

Yep INCO PANTS are defo the way forward here. At least then its not getting all over the house !!! I have had many "DIRTY PROTEST" situations with my Mother and INCO pants have realy helped ...although I will second regular toiupeting then at least you can sometimes avoid unsavoury situations !! good Luck

    HI

My mother has the same problem. However her GP has helped no end and this is how we manage it:

    1. We use Boots Stay Dry disposable pants (use a boots points cards and every now and then we get a pack free).

    2. My mother has Fybogel each morning (orange flavour) (on prescription from the GP) which keeps things under control. If we hit a 'blip' she will have a second one in the afternoon until things settle usually around 2-3 days and then back to 1 per day.

Before anyone starts screaming that Fybogel is for constipation - yes it is but it can also help with Faecal Incontinence (one third of elderly in retirement homes or hospital have been found to be suffering from faecal incontinence).

My mother has been treated this way for about 3 years now and overall we 'win' but as I said we have the odd blip.

You may wish to explore this with you fathers GP. Also does your fther received Attendance Allowance? If not please apply on his behalf now - they extra moeny will help with the cost of the inco pants.

    Good Luck

ps: I have T***o baby wipes on hand for when we do get the blips - for cleaning (I use disposable gloves and do not flush the wipes and they block the loo)!!

    Hi Sotired,

Sorry to hear your Dads in hospital, hopefully they will give you a diagnosis soon and be able to treat your dad to get him better, it probably explains why he was soiling himself as he was not well, maybe an UTI or some sort of infection which could cause more confusion than normal and make him feel generally unwell.

Best of luck, hope things improve for you v soon x
