    Thanks Angela,
I would have missed this programme too!
    I see it's on BBC 2, 21.00 Tomorrow.

"Louis travels to Phoenix, Arizona - the capital of dementia care. He spends time at Beatitudes, a residential institution, and also with those looking after loved ones at home to try to understand the struggle of living in a world of encroaching shadows - and of keeping relationships alive in circumstances that can be among the strangest and most challenging imaginable."

    Hi Jancis

Thanks for finishing the introduction, actually doing the introduction
I`m struggling with writing at the moment, my words are getting jumbled up all the time.I am thinking of too many different things at once!!! I also really need to see an optician because I can hardly read any more!!! In fact I am a bit all over at the moment.

This programme will be very interesting seeing as they have just announced today that a dairy cow has died of BSE in California, I can't help thinking back to 1985 when the UK had it's first cow with BSE, it spiralled from there, the human deaths, the millions of cows put to death.................what a nightmare.

Thanks Angela, I will watch this. I have to join you in the 'can't read small print without glasses but won't go to the optician' club. I hope you feel less stressed soon.

Oh Turbo, you have made me smile I have just bought a pair of reading glasses from the supermarket, and hey presto I can read the paper!!!

The computer is not so much a problem because I magnify everything!!!

Quite looking forward to see what dementia care is like in the USA compared to here.

I think it's another way of saying distract. I used to distract Mum by talking about her mum and dad if she was specially anxious about what she had to do next and she was confused.
I thought it was an interesting programme though it presented a bit of a rose tinted view of dementia. No hint of aggression or violent outbursts or anguished confusion such as my mum suffered in the early days. I felt for the couple with the 9 year old daughter.

Hi Randier and welcome to TP. I noticed Louis used the phrase 're-direct'. I think we tend to use the term 'distract'.

There's an ongoing thread on the programme, so I'll merge the 2 threads to avoid duplication.

I think for people watching this with little awareness of what dementia is will have gained a pretty good insight. The film was good to portray that dementia affects people from younger ages.It also got the message across how devastating this disease is for relatives, especially the lady with the young daughter.
I know that it didn`t show the darker side of dementia as many people on here have witnessed, but, I think it will have gone along way to let Joe Public understand just a little bit more.

I don't think Joe Public with no understanding would watch - far too depressing. Of course I watched. And was very depressed but it was a good programme.
