Took mum this morning for her first memory clinic appoinment whereby she was asked a series of questions. I too was asked questions about her and felt uncomfortable having to answer truthfully in front of her. 40 mins later having decided not to do a scan, the consultant 'diagnosed' her with vascular dementia. I was told nothing could be done; it could be a quick or a slow progression. No follow up appointments would be made. When she gets worse, get GP to refer back! I asked about social services support and was asked to contact them myself as the hospital doesn't do referrals. I feel a bit deflated to say the least as I thought it would be a positive visit. Is this normal procedure?
I had two bad episodes last night with mum being really confused and it really upset and unsettled me - she thought she was in another town and was anxious to get back to her home town.... She was sat in her own home!
