When my hubby passed away, he had already, under his living will, had decided he wanted to donate his brain to Dementia Research, and today, I received the results.

For the past 5 years I thought he had Alzheimers Dementia and Vascular Dementia, but he actually had Alzheimers Dementia. I was really surprised. A lot of questions were answered with the results and now I feel we can start to grieve properly.

The work that Dementia Research does is so valuable and I wish they could get a lot more funds to do more research into the awful disease of Dementia.

    Dear Judy
It's good to hear that you have the results and this will help you to move on. It was a wonderful thing that Phil did, donating his brain for research.
I feel sure that there will be more research done in the future, and hopefully a greater focus on prevention and maybe a cure too.

    Wishing you well

So sorry to hear of your loss Judy, I think your husband passed away amost exactly a week after my mum passed away, she was young like your husband too, she was 57.

We were lucky to be able to give permission for Mum's brain to be donated for research even though Mum wasn't able to decide that in advance (her diagnosis was VERY late), we know that is what she would have wanted as the particular form of AD that she had runs in our family.

We received a lovely letter from Queens Square Brain Bank very quickly thanking us for choosing to donate and are awaiting the letter with the official diagnosis (which may be soon if you have already recieved yours!).

It was very important that something good must come from what Mum went through and I truly believe that donation is such a perfect way to do this. How wonderful that your husband made his wishes known in advance.

I hope that you are coping with the highs and the lows of this journey - some days I manage to live a 'normal' life and some days I could stay in bed all day and sob...such a rollercoaster.

    (((HUGS))) x
