Meryl,
You are so right in what you say. I need to remind myself at times that I have done my best for my Mum. Sometimes I am accused of not wanting her when I won't agree to take her home, but...
Oh, that is sad. Thank you for making clear the DNR procedure. I will make sure that the care home staff are aware of my (and Mum's) views, even though I have signed the DNR paperwork.
Carer0906 - I think you do a wonderful job and have nothing to feel guilty about. I hope your resident is well enough to return to you soon.
What would have been the procedure if you had found...
Thank you. Will do!
Sectioning under the Mental Health Act was the best thing I have ever done for my Mother. Don't be afraid of setting the wheels in motion, sometimes there is no alternative.
Best Wishes.
No walk in my area. :(
Don't we just love those sort of days? If only there were more of them.
My Mum was very happy yesterday, it was her birthday and the care home always do a special birthday tea, including all...
Karjo,
I can only go from my limited experience with my Mother's care home, but I would be expecting a lot more than the care your Mother seems to be experiencing.
At her care home, which is an...
I have found these to be very useful as an aid to conversation:

I have also bought a couple of the jigsaw puzzles.
Hope this helps.
I had the same problem with my Mother, she threw away very little for many years and the house was full to bursting with "stuff" most of which she had completely forgotten about. I used to take her...
This is a very common problem and difficult for us to understand at first. I think it's a good idea to try and see it from your Mother's point of view. She is quite sure that she has...
In my Mother's care home there is a whiteboard outside the dining area and normally this is updated daily with the whole day's menus.
I have also seen in the foyer a sheaf of A4 size sheets of...
I too can only sympathise I'm afraid. My Mother came up with all sorts of tales of her neighbour's wrong doings and fell out with quite a few of them. They were often accused of stealing things...
It probably is me........... I forgot to give you the information I found!
Here it is:
How do I search for something?
To quickly find a thread or post of interest anywhere on the bulletin...
I've found this information on searching - does it help?
I have found it difficult to find the search facility on this forum - is it me?
I wonder if this increase in antipsychotic drugs is with the agreement of the NOK? What if the resident has no-one to monitor their care?
If the care home asks the GP if they can increase/start...
Welcome to Talking Point. I noticed that you had not had a reply yet so thought I would start by saying that there are quite a few posts on this forum concerning 117 funding. I know because I was...
I think the first step would be to speak to her GP. He/she should be aware that there could be a problem with medication and may be able to come up with a solution or some helpful advice.

Isabella,
Respite seems like a good idea as I believe your Mum was happy with that previously. If she is happy to go in again then why not try it? At least she would get 3 good meals a day.

ajaney,
This is indeed a very distressing time for you and for your mother. You will find a lot of support here and I think it would be good to go to your GP, explain the situation and ask if you...
When my Mother lived at home on her own she would lose her door keys at regular intervals. She accused "people" who came into her house as well as me - I threw the keys away apparently.
I had...
I had my Mother's gas cooker disconnected when she was living at home on her own. It was a council bungalow and when the British Gas man came to do the gas safety check on the boiler I asked him how...
Lulabelle,
Are you still in the US? Hope all is going as well as possible.
As your Mother declines all help at home, who ensures that she takes her medication? Does she remember to take it...
Jasonette,
That sounds like good news. I hope things continue to improve and that your Mum can get a proper diagnosis. You can then make plans.
Keep us informed and good luck.
Well, I visited Mum last night and had some success with the puzzles that I printed from the website.
Mum did struggle a bit though and would not have got far without my hints and encouragement....
