Hello BeckyJan, I am Diane, 45, from Birmingham. Llike you, my sweetheart has AD and is in a Home. It is heartbreaking. I do write poetry to help with the situation and hope others who read it might have comfort. I am training to be a Carer. What do you do? How long has your hubby had AD and how old is he? Is he in a Home? Want another friend? If so, that's super. Kind regards. Diane :-)

Hi Jan, Thanks for your message on my blog. We are completely better now thanks (not that we were ever really ill with the virus). The respite is now definitely in place and Crossroads Care will be providing the service. My first respite is the 21st - 23rd August (a week on Friday). I can't wait. I can't imagine feeling guilty (we will see).

    How are you?

Ehehe....thanks Jan, but trust me...we are only one step away from the Adams family! Actually Holly and Ben would quite like being in the Adams family! Chaos rules in this house, and I can honestly say not ALL of it is caused by dad. Glad Ive got them though.

Hi Jan: Thank you for your little message. Yes, Brian has taken me for his mother, sister and cousin in the past, none of whom I resemble in the least! I have in fact kept a fairly detailed diary for about 25 years and when I joined TP it seemed to make sense to put most of the stuff about Brian into my Blog, and yes, it does help to set it all down. It goes a little way towards dealing with what's undealable with. Love, Nan.

    Hi Jan
Don't understand why you did not get my message. I probably did something wrong again as I always do ---- ask Helen how many times I get it wrong!!!! Anyway it was just to say I would love to be counted as one of your friends and have ticked the necessarybox .
Sorry to hear your husband has hd to go in an NH. I dread that thought. Will tell you all about John when I hear from you. At the moment he is ok again. Without his painting abilities it might be a different picture. Would like to see your pictures and send some of mine.
    Love and thanks

    Hi Jan
Thanks for your message, I know Brian is better off in the CH and I know I could not manage at home, but its so lonely, we have been together such a long time and Brian was never away from home, so its a shock to find myself on my own, especially at only 58, I thought we would have years together. Its only been 6 weeks so early days yet, maybe it will get easier. Thanks again for your message.
    Love Lorraine

Hi Jan,some people i know never clean out their hen house,i do mines every week, but i am sure it would be ok to leave it for a few weeks, you should get a big feeder and fill it up to top and see how long it does them and that would give you some idea how long it would last, then you would just need someone to give them fresh water every couple of days, hope this helps you,my girls are not laying to well just now before we just gave the eggs away to family, friends, our neighs, postman, and as i don,t drive(need to be able to drive to live in N.Ireland)my usual taxi frim,s boss and she would not take the fare of me lol anyway hens are not much bother and as long as you make there run fox free and keep an eye out for red mite everything should be ok.Hens are very friendly and onced they get to know your voice will come running to meet you.All the best Marian xx

25 October 2009

My poor David is so so confused. I told him for the umpteenth time about my foot op and said I would not see him for three days. Lots of repeated explanations He is going to drive me around and sweep the leaves!!! 2 minutes later he said 'what are you having done to your hand??'.

Our eldest daughter visited him along with family. He did not know who they were

I found today he could not complete a sentence. ...

I am blogging just to keep some sort of record.

David is still as confused as ever if not more so. He has been extremely sleepy, weary and exhausted over the past 3 weeks.

Today I sat and held his hand, as always. 'Do I need to do anything with the University papers? - have they been handed in?'. I have not seen your Mum lately (died about 15 yrs ago). Where is Mum? (died in 1986). How about Dad? (died even earlier!!).

I am doing this just to place on record some regretful news about David's deterioration.

This week he has been very strange, confused and generally 'out of it'. The NH are checking for infection but I somehow doubt that as there are no other signals except the mental confusion. No cough no peculiar wee problems!!

He has been making very odd comments, his speech is now slurred and he is extremely tired, even more than normal. The nursing staff/carers have noted...

I am not sure why I am doing this except to record something about the stage we have reached in this dementia journey.

Its now nearly 6 months since David showed a steep downward step. It followed a serious fall with broken ribs and the subsequent dementia changes.

He has now been in a NH for 7 months.

Today when I said I was leaving at 5.00pm - he said so what is happening to me? I said the carers and nurses are here for you - his answer 'but this...
