Becoming a deputy

Sorry if I get this wrong as I'm new and this is my first effort! My husband has dementia. He had an emergency amputation in October and has been in hospital ever since.He has gone rapidly downhill both mentally and physically since.Has anyone any experience of becoming a deputy? I have to become one as I am in the process of selling a holiday chalet which we always assumed was in my name but has now turned out to be in joint names and so needs my husband's involvement.
