Next Steps - sorting out the finances

I am going to treat my Blog as an online diary as hope it will keep me sane and serene in the coming months!
Today I am feeling far more positive about the family house sale and will now 'move on' to the more pressing issue of 'financial stuff', i.e. managing our pot of money for the longer term!
I have done a fair bit of research and feel I need to avoid the commitment of a long term care annuity, as would lose a wadge of our Capital and a big slab of £ in commission.
End of an era - house sale for nursing home fees

Hi
I guess I am just one of thousands packing up the contents of a family home which needs to be sold to pay for nursing home fees for my mother in year 11 of AD.
Why do I feel so heartbroken about the whole situation? The house has been ours for 52 years and feel so much more than a building..
I wish there was something practical I could do personally to prevent others going through this situation. I guess supporting the work of Alzheimer's Society is
