Forget about Alzheimer's by engaging with your favourite art form
We believe that people with dementia have as much right to enjoy their lives to the full as anyone else. The creative part of the brain can remain undamaged for years after the onset of dementia. Engagement with arts brings benefits both for those with dementia and to their loved ones through sharing such experiences. We have set up the charity Arts 4 Dementia to facilitate and signpost arts events specially for people with Alzheimers and other forms of dementia so that families, rather than just having to cope, can help to transform the lives of their loved ones. While we will try to respond to questions on this site, if you are interested in what we are doing and have some questions for us, do feel free to contact us through www.arts4dementia.org.uk.

Religion - how do different religions deal with dementia?
Is anyone out there Jewish (am I allowed to ask this?). I am not religious but I feel so alone and would love other people's input on how their religion affects their dealing of the demenita of their loved ones

Northern Ireland based carers and their loved ones in care in northern ireland
Support for those with relatives in the care system in Northern Ireland. Rules and regulations regarding payments, fees etc differ here to rest of UK so I thought it would be good to have somewhere that was specifically for those in this area where we could share our experiences and help with issues specific to the region.

Cameras and photography
Photography provides the way we can look back on our lives before dementia broke in, and to see ourselves and our loved ones as we were then.
It also gives us the way we can record the good times we can still have after dementia has messed up our lives - times that get increasingly precious.
For some of us, photographs are all we have, at times.Category: Members' social groupsLast Activity: 18-05-2013 10:07 AM

Gardening our hobby until AD stole my husband
George and I loved our garden and won many first prizes in the local gardening competition. We knew nothing of gardening before we retired, but learned as we went along and loved the many hours we spent in it together. Wonderful memories for me, and the photos sometimes mean something to George.

my pets keep me sane
their is nothing better than coming home from a hard day of all stresses to the response my two dogs holly and mitzy give me. no matter how bad i feel they are their to greet me and love me for who i am. i just wondered if any other members have pets that bring them comfort. when my sons were younger and ill the dogs used to sit with them until they were well.

Can't sleep, need to chat
This is for all those people who maybe wish to chat when they can't sleep or need someone just to listen in the early hours. I just thought it might help. It sometimes feels rude to ask if someone is available to chat but if you join this group a message in the wee hours may get a response now. A Bit of a comfort group.
