All busy online forums have to deal with spammers from time to time (people who send unsolicited messages with the aim of promoting their goods or services with forum users).
For the vast majority of the time, our moderating team ban spammers before they get to do anything on Talking Point...
Several of you have reported that you have found it quite complicated to attach a picture (or other file) to a post on Talking Point.
I’m happy to say that we’ve done some work on this function, to make it more straightforward to use. From now on, the process for attaching a file to a post on...
Longer-standing Talking Point users will know that for the last few years, we have carried out a survey about the forum. It’s that time again. :)
Our annual survey is a key way for us to keep track of how we’re doing. The more feedback we have from you about your experience of using Talking...
We need to upgrade the Talking Point software, vBulletin, every so often, and we are now due an upgrade.

I thought I would set up a thread for you to post any queries about the new features on Talking Point.
The FAQ system is pretty comprehensive so it is best to first check there first, but I will try and answer any questions that come up.
General Forum Usage
Please can you tell me how to use these message icons? I have tried, but they never seem to work. I'm obviously missing the salient point, as per usual.
Following feedback we’ve had from users - in our most recent annual survey, user testing project, and via the forum itself - we’re going to be updating Talking Point next Monday, 22 July. The forum will be unavailable for a few hours first thing that morning, whilst our technical...
First thing is that you need to have a picture on your computer that you can use.
I'm assuming here that you are using a picture of yourself. If not, then you need to think about the copyright of any picture you may wish to use and that you shouldn't just take steal] images from random websites,...
I am continually adding new tutorials to the Talking Point microsite and it may not always be obvious when I have added a new one.
I will use this thread to let members know.
Please be aware that at present there is some jiggery pokery needed on the tutorials to make them print sensibly. I...
I feel guilty now .... I just looked up some profiles because I wanted to check on some people's last posts ... and now I feel like I am snooping .... or I have an ulterior motive ..... and members might be wondering why I chose to 'look at them' - only I wasn't ......
I am very, very...
If you ever find that you are NOT seeing all of your posts or only see a few messages then you may find this tip useful. I came across this issue as I only saw a few posts and then noticed that the default for this setting is only 30 days.
There is a setting at the bottom of the page...
Apropos of absolutely nothing :D are you all aware that the Talking Point has an ignore list feature? Specifically, if you click on a user name, you are given the option to add that user to your ignore list. From then on you will not see any of that users posts. The procedure is: click on...
Has TP ever considered implementing a chat room? or is that too hard because u'd need full time administrators?
I just thought wouldn't it be great if u could get online and just chat in those moments when things are suddenly tough and u want to talk to someone?
I know we can post here, but...
This post is to provide some pointers to posters who might have some problems getting their point across.
1) Emoticons AKA Smilies are great :D :);) but when you use too many of them, it's difficult to actually read and understand what you are saying. It becomes more like one of those...
I know this is ridiculous but I cannot work out how to just quote part of a post in a reply. I have to quote all or nothing!

Am a bit of a gadget nut so naturally I want to find some incredibly complicated techie way to monitor my Mum (lives on own and has Dementia) without having to constantly drive round to her.
Before I start anyone know of any thread already discussing...
I've been searching the site for a way to unsubscribe, thanks for all your support but it's time to go so I would like to delete my posts and 'unsubscribe' I dont know who I should ask so if one of the moderators would be in touch I would be grateful.
This is not strictly a TP problem although of course it is affecting the emails I receive of threads I am subscribed to. If anyone computer savvy can advise me I would be grateful.
Didn't get online till late last night and discovered most if my Inbox emails had disappeared. A great many there...
John (Beechmount) indicated in another thread that he sometimes sees a post where the last word of a line is sometimes duplicated (either on the same line or on the next). I'm trying to track down what the problem might be but it's difficult because I am not seeing the same problem.
Over the next couple of months I hope to start putting together some tutorials to guide users around the features on the Talking Point forum.
These tutorials will be aimed at you!
Why am I doing this?
The help file that comes with the forum software...
I’m thrilled to say we are launching a free mobile app for Talking Point today, which will make it easier and quicker to use the forum on the move. (Some of our eagle-eyed members came across the app just ahead of today’s official launch, and I was very happy to see that early feedback has been...
Unfortunately the vbulletin software that we use for the forum does not allow you to search for short terms such as 'EPA'. As and alternate, you can use a search engine such as google to do this for you. The following steps force google to only search one particular site.
in the thread http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/talkingpoint/discuss/showthread.php?p=88676#post88676, Connie asked for some documentation on messing about with photographs, based on something I had done..
I'm attaching it here, as a series of jpeg files, one page of the document per post.
