  3. Dementia and risk of misdiagnosis?

My uncle has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of dementia. Apparently he has significant frontal lobe features. I have read about Frontal Temporal Lobe Dementia and understand the symptoms etc but I just can't relate the copious information I have gathered, to my uncle's problems. Yes, he has...

  5. Incontinence pads for men

Since David's return from hospital we are having increasing 'accidents' mostly at night, but also not getting to the toilet in time during the day. I know many of you have had the same problems and I am wondering, from your experience, if you can tell me which type of pads you found the most...

  6. Unhappy Don't want to be crying

I blogged yesterday as I thought it would help figure out how I'm feeling and why I feel this way. We are taking a holiday for 3 weeks from next Friday. :) However, the last few weeks I've been feeling so uptight… didn't know why as I should be excited about going away. I know we can get stressed...

  7. Confusion

Hi, Mum has been in care for nearly a year now and I am concerned that recently she has been hard to motivate and says she is happy to do nothing. When I say happy, she is happy as I know this could be a sign of depression but she is cheerful most of the time. I am exhausted by trying to get her to...

Hi Just wanted to tell you what happened yesterday when I visited my 85 year old mother who is now in a nursing home (7 weeks). We were reading the newspaper together and came to an article on people living longer. The average age of death for a women is, apparently 75 years old. My mother...

  9. Back from holiday with Dad

Fingers crossed these work! Dad had some really good moments (which the pics show) but he was terribly confused and disorientated. At times, it was really sad to see just how confused and anxious he was. Whilst day to day the deterioration may not be evident because of his established...

  10. Help, my Mum doesn't want to see me.

My Mum lives with my step dad and since March and his retirement he has stopped access to her. Having involved all the Social Services, the Police and now an IMCA, she continues to tell them she doesn't want to see or ring me. I'm empty, lost, grieving. I don't understand why, but because...

As a new member, i would like some help and ideas. My husband has dementia, diagnosed 18 months ago, but certainly has had simptoms for at least 6 years. He completely denies anything is wrong "everyone of my age has a bad memory". He is in his early seventies! He has been prescribed Aricept,...

  15. How many plates are you spinning today?

Today I feel like one of those circus acts where the man is running up and down trying to keep the plates spinning. This week I have been trying to help elderly friends deal with SS. 16. carers grant

Hi all, I applied for a carers direct payment or grant, in the hope that we could buy a new laptop, as ours is that old it's powered by steam lol. Anyway, I've just discovered that although we qualify for the maximum amount, which last year was £500 and would have been plenty to buy a new...

  18. Dreading the Doctors

Hello everyone, Today is the day I have been dreading, yet at the same time waiting for. My Dad has his follow up visit to the GP - he asked us to return in six weeks to see if Dad has improved since last time, before referring him to the specialist. He is going to ask him more questions to...

  19. When to admit it's time for residential care?

My Mum has frontotemporal dementia and has been getting progressively worse, more so over the past 6 months. As her carer my Dad does the best he can but it has to be said that this doesn't make best use of his skill set; he is not a natural nurturer. She is doubly incontinent, but he struggles to...

  21. Mum settling at day centre

Hi All, Mum had her 2nd day at day centre today. When I got to her home to get her ready she was adamant she wasn't going. I was a little concerned, but I knew I had to persevere. In the past she has got the better of me-I'm a soft touch and always give in, but I know I have to persevere at...

  22. Advice about speech therapy

We visited a lovely nursing home today and my spirit was uplifted to the highest possible level.
