Any advice greatly received

Hi About 6 months ago I managed to get the hospital doctor to visit my mum who put on a very good act so he told her she doesnt have dementia but that she had had a nervous breakdown. However as the months pass it is very clear that she does have some sort dementia, she has not idea about dates, what day it is, when she has appts, she gets lost in her small bungalow, she is having visual hallucination continually, she is finding doing the simplest of tasks a problem, she has children in the house (all in her imagination) and pulls wires out of the back of the tv so they cant hurt themselves. She talks to people who are not there whilst you are visiting, she gets incredibly angry if challenged on any of this so am at a complete loss as to what to do. She wont visit the doctor and I feel I cant help her. She is a virtual recluse, she wont go out anywhere (just shopping in town once a week), when you visit an odd day she will seem relatively normal and then others.... This is all a very brief outline of some of the things that are happening. She has just phoned me to ask what time I am picking her up for my sons wedding as she is ready .... its at the end of November. I just dont know what to do, please any advice greatly received.

Oh Trish I have exactly the same thing with my mum bless her. It used to drive me mad that no-one believed me. Mum is having the same issues. She thinks her 3 year old great grandaughter is down with her and rings her mum to see where she is. She is in hospital at moment and sees cats in ward/invisible people/thinks she is in a hotel etc. I asked a docotor to visit her at home (saying I was worried she would go out the house) He rang me the next day saying when he got there she said Oh how are you doctor williams and how is your dad and your children? He said I sat here thinking why am I here? But then as he continued to talk to her he realised something was wrong.
Mum seems to be two people - when a stranger/doctor /nurse goes near her bed a big smile comes on her face and she says Are you busy today When do you finish Are you married Have you got any children.......all easy so the attention is taken off her. Yet when I mishear waht she says she will say it again through gritted teeth angry.
All I can say is ask the doctor to call again and do a simple test like What year is it? Who is the prime minister? Her date of birth? Postcode. If mum couldn't answer she would go off on a little story nothing to do with the question. Tell the doctor sometimes she is lucid for a few hours.

    Hope this helps you
