My husband who has advanced alzheimers, and is very frail abd 80yrs old, fell and broke his hip while i was away on respite hol. he is in hospital, the operation for replacement hip was successful, bur recovery is v slow- A week after operation he is still on oxygen and still has a drip up -, he has bladder and chest infections, he is not able to eat or drink, some of the staff think he has forgotten how to swallow. Yesterday an attempt was made to insert a nasal gastric tube - he refused to let them do this, he fought them off, he was very very frightened after the attempt to insert the tube, he just dosent understand, what they are doing or why they are doing it - a stomach tube has been mentioned - a peg. I have thought long and hard about this and have come to the conclusion that i dont want him to have a feeding tub inserted against his will - I know he may well die if he dosent start to eat, but to me a peaceful end is preferable to him being forcefed - PLEASE ADVISE - PLEASE RESPOND - OLIVE OIL
