Evening visit: arrived at 5 p.m.. Could not wake Brian. Supper arrived 5.20. Still totally unresponsive. Told nurse I would come back in 40 mins. to feed him. Back in 35 and still unresponsive.
Told nearest nurse I thought he might have had a "silent seizure" (he was apparently put back into bed at 2 p.m.) and 3 different people came to do "Obs". His temperature was lower than normal, his BP was up, he did not respond at all to pencil beam in his eyes. He later responded to voice.
They decided to give anti-seizure drug and asked me to step beyond the curtain. He said loudly "I don't want any pills" and woke briefly. But he never met my eye or responded to me in any way and there is usually the hint of a smile even if very tired.
I pointed out bruising above, below and to side of his L eye, which I said often accompanies an "episode". He then fell asleep again but no pill thought necessary as he had "come round". But ate nothing. (They would order for him later, they said, if he woke. Yogurt or stewed apple and custard, something easy to swallow.)
I was held up briefly in ward doorway (by meds. trolley) as I was leaving and overheard request being made for Doc. to come and see him, particulars given and "taking longer to come round." The nurse put down the 'phone and reassured me that the Doc. would come and check him over this evening.
