My husband who has advanced alzheimers, and is very frail abd 80yrs old, fell and broke his hip while i was away on respite hol. he is in hospital, the operation for replacement hip was successful, bur recovery is v slow- A week after operation he is still on oxygen and still has a drip up -, he has bladder and chest infections, he is not able to eat or drink, some of the staff think he has forgotten how to swallow. Yesterday an attempt was made to insert a nasal gastric tube - he refused to let
I want to thank all the kind people who responded to my cry for help - i am following the advice offered - and have had some success with giving him fruit jelly and using a straw to encourage him to take more liquids - its a bit of an uphill struggle - i have been enormously encouraged by the response - dont feel so alone anymore.
