My husband who has advanced alzheimers, and is very frail abd 80yrs old, fell and broke his hip while i was away on respite hol. he is in hospital, the operation for replacement hip was successful, bur recovery is v slow- A week after operation he is still on oxygen and still has a drip up -, he has bladder and chest infections, he is not able to eat or drink, some of the staff think he has forgotten how to swallow. I want to thank all the kind people who responded to my cry for help - i am following the advice offered - and have had some success with giving him fruit jelly and using a straw to encourage him to take more liquids - its a bit of an uphill struggle - i have been enormously encouraged by the response - dont feel so alone anymore.
